A Brief Report on the Websites and Other Technology – by Kevin Machin
I took a good long look at the technology we're currently using at NAWG and concluded that there's a lot we can do to make our lives easier. We can probably save some money too.
Goals
- Make it easier for our members and friends to achieve their goals, e.g: booking an event, entering a competition, renewing membership.
- Make running the association easier, through the use of technology.
- To provide alternative methods, wherever possible, so as not to exclude anyone, e.g. those less comfortable with using IT.
Projects
I can distil a long list of things to do, into three main projects.
- New website: The old one is both difficult to use and difficult to maintain. We'll address this by creating a brand new website. Watch this space.
- New shop: The current shop is also difficult to use and difficult to run. We're researching possible alternatives and will let you know when anything changes.
- Joined-up data: Many of our procedures involve a lot of manual and labour intensive work. We aim to address this through the use of automation and more centralised information. An example might be to automatically distribute this newsletter, based on the membership information in our database.
There are no time estimates as yet, but I'll keep everyone informed as we go along.
